A man, known as "Six," finds himself inexplicably trapped in "The Village" with no memory of how he arrived. As he explores his environment, he discovers that his fellow inhabitants are identified by number instead of name, have no memory of any prior existence, and are under constant surveillance. Not knowing whom to trust, Six is driven by the need to discover the truth behind The Village, the reason for his being there, and most importantly -- how he can escape.

Jim Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ, The Thin Red Line) will play the role of Six; and two-time Oscar nominee Ian McKellen (Lord of the Rings, The Da Vinci Code) will co-star as Two.

True Blood

"True Blood is a supernatural drama based on the Sookie Stackhouse Mystery novels by author Charlaine Harris. It takes place in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, in the not too distant future, where vampires and humans uneasily co-exist. This is due to the development of TruBlood, a synthetic liquid created by the Japanese that slakes a vampires thirst. They can now survive without the need to feed on humans ("need" being the operative word)."

The show which is currently in it's second season in the US premiered on FX on Friday the 17th of July. Repeat showings are every Sunday at 10pm so those that missed the premiere can catch it tonight. The show stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley and Nelsan Ellis.

Ida "The Link"

"History Channel, together with the University of Oslo and the Senckenberg Research Institute, yesterday revealed a landmark scientific find: the 47 million year old fossilized remains of a primate. The most complete fossil primate ever found, the young female specimen -- known as "Ida" -- is set to revolutionize our understanding of human evolution. Twenty times older than most fossils that explain human evolution, "Ida" is a transitional species showing characteristics from the very primitive non-human evolutionary line (prosimians, such as lemurs), but she is more related to the human evolutionary line (anthropoids, such as monkeys, apes and humans). This places Ida at the very root of anthropoid evolution -- when primates were first developing the features that would evolve into our own. The scientists' findings are published today by PLoS One, the open source journal of the Public Library of Science."

Ray Wise in Reaper

Fortune really does favour The Wise. Yours truly has been delving the murky world of message boards for weeks now trying get solid news on whether or not Reaper would be back for a second season. Well, today I hear the news that it will return for series 2 via none other than my favourite Bad Dad, Ray Wise.

Filming of Reaper Season 2 is, in fact, well under way as Mr. Wise is currently in the middle of episode 9. The series will debut on American TV in January or March 2009, though no word as of yet as to when we Brits will get a snaffle of it. Still, exciting news for me as I am stuck without a series, except for Desperate Housewives which has rather promptly returned, jarringly set 5 years after the last and better written series. But, this is just a filler until the mighty Reaper comes back to me for I have taken rather a shine to it. Disappointed though I was at first, I think this show has a real charm...and it's never a shame about Ray.
